Athletes

Special Olympics athletes have the opportunity to do more then just play sports at SONH. After participating in the proper training tracks, our athletes can also be Global Messengers, volunteers, and even coaches.

Global Messenger Training
We offer a Global Messenger training at our Volunteer Leadership Weekend every other year. At this training weekend, Bronze, Silver, and Gold level Global Messengers meet to learn new information and to improve their skills. Each level of the Global Messenger training emphasizes different skills, and each level of the training builds upon the last. More information about Global Messengers an other non-competitive opportunities for SONH athletes can be found here.

Bronze Level

  • Work on tracking the speeches
  • Learning important facts about SONH
  • Practicing their presentation skills.

Silver Level

  • Learn how to write their own speeches
  • Learn interview skills
  • Create a fundraising speech
  • Mentor bronze level GM

Gold Level

  • Learn to utilize technology with their speeches
  • Work on memorizing speeches or SONH facts
  • Learn to set up speeches without a speech coach
  • Mentor silver level GM
  • Participate in the SO "Train the Trainer" Workshop

If you are interested in either becoming a Global Messenger or participating in the Global Messenger training, please contact Pam Langille at PamL@sonh.org or by phone at (603) 624-1250 ext. 23.
